Surprise! The Ram Power Wagon Diesel You’ve Waited Years For Has Finally Arrived: Video Debut

We've only been asking for it for years...but better late than never, right?

Power Wagon don’t care, but with a Cummins turbo-diesel kicking out 1,075 lb-ft of torque…it doesn’t give a you-know-what.

As we say goodbye to 2025 and look out at the year ahead, it’s a question of which truck maker is going to make headlines this year. Well, Ram certainly isn’t waiting to grab the news cycle by the horns, as it just debuted the new TRX, courtesy of a resurrected SRT performance division. That isn’t all Ram had up its sleeve, though, as it’s finally rolling out a truck folks have been clamoring for throughout the past several years: a diesel Power Wagon!

“Customers asked, Ram delivered,” the automaker’s official statement starts. Well, you could reasonably argue it took a minute…but indeed a Cummins-powered version of Ram’s most off-road-capable 3/4-ton is finally here. To that end, you’ll soon have an option of a 6.7-liter engine with 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, as the lineup gets a straight-up rival to the Ford F-250 Tremor and the Chevy Silverado HD ZR2.

Point-blank, that engine is the headline feature here.

Outside that addition, the 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Diesel is just that — a Power Wagon. So, you still get front and rear locking differentials, Bilstein shocks, comprehensive underbody armor, five-link coil rear suspension, Mopar rock rails, an electronic disconnecting front stabilizer bar, the whole shebang.

Well…nearly. See, while you get a nice and beefy 9.25-inch front axle and 11.5-inch rear axle with a 3.42:1 ring and pinion ratio, as well as upgraded 38-millimeter axle shafts to turn the stock 34-inch all-terrain tires, what’s missing from this picture?

Why, that’d be the factory-fitted Warn winch, which you can get as part of the Power Wagon Level 1 Equipment group, should you spec it with the standard 6.4-liter Hemi gas engine. Unfortunately, packaging the Cummins turbo-diesel under the hood means it will not be part of the optional equipment packages here.

The 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel comes with slightly lower ground clearance and approach/breakover/departure angles, similar to what you’d encounter on the Ram HD Rebel. Against the gas Power Wagon, there’s one fewer inch of clearance (for 13.2 inches), while the angles measure out to 26.1 degrees of approach, 20.6 degrees of breakover and 26 degrees on departure. For reference, the Hemi-equipped Power Wagon manages 29.4 degrees and 22 degrees of breakover, while the 26-degree departure remains the same.

Looking inside the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel

As standard, the 2027 Ram Power Wagon with the Cummins turbo-diesel gets a similar set of features to the rest of the Power Wagon lineup. That is, you get a standard fully digital gauge cluster, a 12-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system, an integrated trailer brake controller and driver assistance features like blind-spot monitoring and hill descent control.

Again like the gas Power Wagon, two Equipment Groups are available to spec your truck up with additional goodies, factory winch notwithstanding. The Level 1 Group adds features like a 9-speaker premium audio system, automatic high-beams, power-adjustable pedals and memory functionality for the front seats, a set of dual USB-A and USB-C ports, dual wireless charging pads up front and a security alarm, among other quality-of-life upgrades. The Level 2 Group goes further, adding a 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a front passenger display as well as a larger 14.5-inch center display, different bucket seats and a more premium instrument panel bezel. Other packages like the Bed Convenience Group, Safety Group, Fifth-Wheel/Gooseneck Prep Group and Tow Technology Group are also available on the diesel Power Wagon, just like they are on the gas one.

How much does the Power Wagon Diesel cost?

Ram says the 2027 Power Wagon Diesel will arrive in the second half of this year. Against the $74,475 gas Power Wagon, the diesel will cost you another $13,995. The base MSRP for the Cummins-equipped Power Wagon will be $88,470, including Ram’s $2,595 destination fee.
