The U.S. full-size pickup truck market and sales look bleak in Q2 2026 with one very positive exception. GM and Ford saw their pickup truck sales shrink last quarter, but Ram trucks saw a dramatic turnaround with a +14.3% gain. Naturally, there is more nuance in the data. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in!
Chevrolet Silverado trucks continue to slide down, especially the heavy-duty 2500/3500 lineup. There Q2 sales decreased a total of -7.3% over Q2 of 2025. The Silverado HD truck sales went down -16.8% over the same timeframe. The GMC Sierra HD lineup sales also went down -8.3%. The main bright spot is the Sierra 1500 lineup that went up 11.3% in sales.
GMC says the company recorded its best ever Q2 for Sierra sales. GM did not specify any particular reason for a downturn in its HD pickup truck sales. The fully-redesigned 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks are just around the corner. These go on sale later this year. There are rumors of updated new HD pickup truck from GM coming soon as well.
Things are not looking good at Ford with the F-series down -11.0% in Q2 2026. We know that Ford an aluminum supply shortage due to a fire at a supplier facility earlier in the year. It’s unclear whether this issue continues to slow down sales. We are reaching out to Ford for comment on this.
Ford provided the following guidance about the automotive industry in general: “in June the industry was strong, producing a total vehicle SAAR of 17.1M – the industry’s first monthly sales rate above 17M since July 2025.” Let’s hope this trend continues.
On the flip side, Ram is reporting their 1500 light-duty trucks sales increase of 26.7%. It appears that the company strategy of bringing back the 5.7L HEMI V8 is working. The new Ram TRX and the Rumble Bee lineup should continue the excitement.
