It’s a new year, and that means a new truck is entering the TFL long-term fleet: a 2025 Ford Maverick!
Each year, we cycle through quite a few vehicles in pursuit of getting you as many tests and as much useful information as possible. With 2024 now in the books, we’ve moved headline arrivals like the fourth-generation Tacoma, Tesla Cybertruck and our long-term Ram 2500 onto their next owners. And with the new year, we’re picking up new trucks to test, including one in which folks have shown a huge amount of interest: the updated 2025 Ford Maverick.
Fundamentally, the 2025 Ford Maverick is a mid-cycle refresh of the small truck that’s already proven itself an explosively popular addition to the Blue Oval’s portfolio. You get the typical exterior facelift with an updated grille and new wheel designs, new interior options and better technology, including a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen. But the major update coming with this model year is Ford’s inclusion of an all-wheel drive option with the hybrid powertrain. So now, you can (ideally) get the best of both worlds: Hybrid efficiency and all-weather capability. And speaking of capability, the hybrid Maverick can tow up to 4,000 pounds — so it really is shaping up as one of the best all-around options on the market.
There are a few other changes to the Maverick lineup for the new model year as well. In addition to the AWD hybrid, the performance-oriented Lobo trim makes its debut. Think of it as the other side of the coin from the off-road-themed Tremor, with the Lobo bringing more of a street truck for those who want that kind of vibe. In either case, you get a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine putting out 238 horsepower (down 12 from last year). Baseline trims like the affordable XL starting at $27,990, the mid-range XLT (that we have here) for $30,490 and the more feature-rich Lariat at $38,730 remain. The Tremor, for its part, kicks off at $41,790, and the Lobo tops out the range at $42,190.
The particular 2025 Ford Maverick XLT AWD Hybrid we bought arrived with a $36,275 sticker price.
In the video below, Roman and Andre pick up our brand new Maverick, in Eruption Green no less, from local dealer Brighton Ford. In the process, we trade in another truck from the TFL fleet, though this isn’t your usual sort of deal. The guys trade in our 1931 Ford Model A pickup, marking one of the strangest trades (and certainly the oldest) that we’ve done.
