Whoa! I Drive a 2025 Ford Maverick AWD Hybrid Nearly 400 Miles & Cannot Believe the Crazy Good MPG!

Nobody expected this!

2025 ford maverick awd hybrid mpg city commute crazy good

Our long-term 2025 Ford Maverick AWD hybrid is going through another test. This time, Mary is using it for her daily commute to figure out if this compact pickup truck makes sense for car person. What does she think? Would she consider buying a Maverick although she has never owned any pickup truck before? She also gets crazy good MPG in the process. Let’s dig in!

Mary has a very long daily commute that is approaching 100 miles. She drive from Fort Collins, CO to Boulder, CO and back. This includes some city driving, and some two-lane highways. She does not use any interstates or major highways during this commute. This route should be good for the Maverick gas/electric hybrid system. The slower speeds and stop-n-go driving show allow it to regenerate some energy while slowing down, and use an electric-only driving mode for cruising.

The new Maverick AWD is using a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine that is mated to an electric motor for a combined 191 horsepower. The transmission is a PowerSplit eCVT that has been upgraded for 2025 to allow for all-wheel-drive capability and up to 4,000 lbs of towing ability. This little pickup has a 2-inch hitch receiver, trailer wiring, and an integrated trailer brake controller. It’s not very quick, but it can be very efficient.

Mary completed four days of her daily commute and drove 385.9 miles. This took nearly 12 hours. Her average speed this week was around 32 MPH. Nearly 48% of her drive was done in all-electric mode! The Maverick is reporting 46.2 MPG at the end. We did not verify this at the fuel pump, so the actual result may be a little different.
