Nissan is adding a new trim to the 2027 Frontier lineup. It’s the new Frontier Sport 4×4. It splits the difference between the more affordable Frontier SV and the top of the line Frontier PRO-4X. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in!
The new Frontier Sport Edition is based on the relatively affordable SV trim. It uses some of the exterior elements of the Frontier Dark Armor package. This includes the dark front grille and blacked out badges and trim pieces. It’s rolling on unique black wheels with the Nissan badges outlined in white.
It’s a 4×4 midsize pickup truck with a low-range transfer case for slow speed off-road capability. It’s wearing 265/70R17 Hankook Dynapro AT2 all-terrain tires. It has a front skid plate underneath, but it does not have Bilstein shocks or a rear locking differential that you would find under a Frontier PRO-4X.
The engine is unchanged. It’s still a 3.8L V6 with a rating of 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 9-speed automatic and this is the only available powertrain.
The interior has lime-green trim pieces and distinct “Sport” seats with the same color stitching. This pickup truck is equipped with a selection of on-road and off-road drive modes, including a hill-descend assist feature. This particular truck has a payload rating of 1,190 lbs. It can tow around 6,500 lbs in this configuration. The Frontier S King Cab 2WD is rated to tow 7,150 lbs.

Nissan has not announced pricing for the new Frontier Sport. They say that this model slots between the SV and the PRO-4X. We are guessing the starting price will somewhere between $41,000 and $44,000. The 2027 Frontier models go on sale in late summer of 2026. This is when the Frontier Sport will also be available.
