It’s time to sell my Chevy Colorado Trail Boss and get a new pickup truck. Which one to buy? Well, I need and want something bigger for my family. I must choose a full-size or heavy-duty pickup truck. I used to own a Chevy HD Silverado with a Duramax V8 turbo-diesel. I used to own several SUVs (including a Nissan Pathfinder). I owned a Ford F-150 and a Chevy midsize pickup truck. My eye is on a half-ton pickup from Ram or Toyota. Here is what happened when Roman and I went to a local dealership to trade in my Colorado.
The reason I decided to trade in my Chevy Colorado instead of selling it myself is due to a tax advantage. This way I would not have to pay taxes on the full price of the truck I am buying.
I zeroed in on the Toyota Tundra and the older ones with the V8 engine. There are a couple of important reasons for this. First, I cannot spend brand-new truck money right now. A brand new full-size crew cab 4×4 pickup truck would cost $50,000 at the VERY minimum after rebates. Second, I never personally owned a gas V8-powered pickup truck. The number of V8 options continues to decline. This may be one of my last opportunities to buy and own one.
This is why I made Roman test drive three used Toyota Tundra trucks at the dealership. I initially had my eyes on a low-miles 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Off-road in Army Green. What a great color and the truck had just over 30,000 miles on the odometer. However, this truck ended up showing way too much rust underneath. It came from Michigan and may have been neglected.
There was also a 2020 Tundra 1794 Edition with a great luxurious interior, a wireless phone charger, and Apple CarPlay phone integration. Nice! However, a 2019 Tundra TRD Pro in Voodoo Blue won the race! What a truck! Except, that huge Safari snorkel looks out of place.
Please join Roman and I as we go shopping for my next personal truck in the video below. Please let me know your feedback and your favorite Tundra accessories (if any).
