On this special episode of the TFL Talkin’ Trucks podcast Roman and I argue about mini EV pickup trucks, and I spend time with Clay Croft – the leader of the Expedition Overland project and video series. This is important because Clay and his team have driven almost every version of Toyota trucks and body-on-frame SUVs around the world. Their expedition trucks are consistently put under a great stress on very rough roads and trails. I get to drive one of their expedition vehicles – this Toyota Sequoia that is nicknamed “Simba”. These are the lessons learned. Let’s dig in!

The Expedition Overland team has been working with Toyota on many trips and expeditions around the globe. Toyota is one of the sponsors of these expeditions. The team modifies the vehicles to their demanding and precise specifications. There are no crazy tall suspension lifts and giant tires. These are mindful modifications to make the team’s travel more comfortable. These vehicles also have to survive long-distance travel in some of the most remote parts of the world. As such, these vehicles need to be very reliable.
