Welcome to Episode 2 of our “Go Big … Again” video series. It’s all about comparing and having fun with a 1998 Chevy Tahoe, 1997 Ford Expedition, and a 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser!

We take a look back at some of the most popular 1990s full-size SUVs to figure out which one was the best. On previous episode, we took these three SUVs off-road on our Tombstone Hill trail. The Land Cruiser came out on top. It’s super capable off-road, although this one does not have front or rear locking differentials.

This time we find out how efficient or inefficient these big behemoths are after 25+ years of use. We put them on our Denver 100 MPG loop – which is a 111 mile ring road around Denver, Colorado. This is a highway-speed MPG loop.

Back in the day, these SUVs were rated as “gas guzzlers”. All three of them received 13 MPG combined rating from the EPA.

The GMT400 Chevy Tahoe is equipped with a powerful 5.7L Vortec V8 with 255 horsepower. The original Ford Expedition is equipped with a 5.4L V8 with 230 horsepower. The 80-Series Land Cruiser is equipped with a 4.5L I6 engine with 212 horsepower.

The results are surprising!

Spoiler Alert: The Chevy Tahoe takes a win 18.8 MPG result. The Ford Expedition got 16.75 MPG. The Land Cruiser got 16.3 MPG. Whoa!
