This Ford F-150 recall covers trucks between the 2023 and 2027 model years.
For years, the Ford F-150 has been America’s most popular truck. That popularity can cut both ways, however, since any recalls that do impact the lineup tend to be widespread, and this campaign is no exception. In fact, Ford just recalled 223,472 F-150 units between the 2023 and 2027 model years for a front fuel tank strap that may not be properly secured to the frame. In instances where that is the case, the fuel tank could detach from the vehicle while driving, creating a safety hazard for owners as well as other motorists.
The automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that this problem may manifest itself early in the truck’s lifespan, either when it is unsold or when trucks have less than three months in service. Ford’s internal Critical Concern Review Group started looking into the problem on July 23, and found a number of trucks with unsecured fuel tanks built during periods when cameras that are supposed to verify proper fuel tank strap assembly were “not in continuous use”.
Through August 27, Ford’s internal probe found 16 warranty claims related to the condition, but no accidents or injury reports.
What’s the fix?
This recall homes in on an installation issue, rather than an actual part defect. As a result, the repair will involve inspecting the fuel tank straps and, as long as they aren’t damaged, properly securing them to the frame rail. If Ford dealer technicians find an issue with either the front or rear tank straps, they will replace those parts, free of charge.
Affected F-150 trucks, per Ford’s VIN records, were built between January 4, 2023 and August 27, 2026.
