Video: Detroit to Denver – Here’s How Far the 2023 Ford F-350 Can Take You on a Single Tank of Diesel!

Is this the most efficient dually on the market?

Here it is – our first real-world long-haul MPG for the all-new 2023 Ford F-350 high-output 6.7L Power Stroke V8. Kase and I are driving this brand new F-350 dually from Detroit to Denver. How far will it go on a single tank of diesel? Let’s find out!

This truck is equipped with the new high-output version of the turbo-diesel engine. It’s rated at 500 hp @ 2,600 rpm and 1,200 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600 rpm. It’s backed up by a 10-speed automatic transmission, and this truck is equipped with a 3.55 rear axle ratio.

As it sits, this Limited edition luxury 4×4 truck has a payload rating of 5,150 lbs and a maximum towing rating of 31,800 lbs. Those are big numbers, but can it beat a Ram 3500 HD Cummins-powered dually at long-range fuel economy?

This Super Duty has an 8-foot bed, and it is equipped with a 48-gallon diesel fuel tank. This is a lot of fuel capacity that can take you a long way no matter how much you are towing or carrying. The latest GM heavy-duty pickup trucks have a maximum fuel capacity of 36 gallons. The Ram HD trucks have an optional 50-gallon factory fuel tank. Huge!

Join Kase and me on this cross-country trip as we learn what it’s like to drive a new Ford Super Duty. I can tell you, that this truck has very comfortable seats, adaptive cruise control, and a lane-keep assistance system. It does NOT have Ford’s Blue Cruiser hands-off driving system (at least, not yet).

Spoiler Alert: in the end, we got 17.6 MPG from this new Ford dually while going over 685 miles at interstate highway speeds. We did not drive a 2019 Ram 3500 HD Cummins on the same route. The Ram HD did a Las Vegas to Denver trip with a result of 15.2 MPG. The Ram would be a bit more efficient if it did not have to cross the Rocky Mountains.
