Ford releases the 2027 Ford Super Duty order guide this month and it shows many changes. Most notable is the removal of two Super Duty engine options. There is an overall streamlining of the options and trim packages for the 2027 model year. What’s going on here? Let’s dig in!
Ford introduced four engine options for the 2023 Super Duty. The 7.3L gas “Godzilla” V8 engine got a smaller brother – the more affordable 6.8L gas V8. There were also two versions of the 6.7L Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8: the standard output and the high output. For 2027 model year, the 6.8L gas V8 and the standard output Power Stroke V8 are no more.
The 2027 Ford Super Duty will be able with three powertrains choices
- 7.3L V8 (F-250) with a 10-speed TorqShift-G transmission (430 hp / 485 lb-ft)
- 7.3L V8 (all other) with a 10-speed TorqShift transmission (430 hp / 485 lb-ft)
- 6.7L Diesel V8 (all) with a 10-speed TorqShift transmission (500 hp / 1,200 lb-ft)
The TorqShift-G transmission has a lower torque rating than the other Ford TorqShift transmissions. This “-G” transmission has been in use for several years, and it is now available on the F-250 trucks that are not equipped with the Tremor off-road package. Indeed, this is a simplified engine lineup that is easier to understand and to track. However, why remove two more affordable engine options? Does it mean that 2027 Super Duty trucks will be more expensive or does this simplification result in lower prices for consumers? We don’t have the answer yet. Ford has not released the 2027 pricing at this time and there is no 2027 Super Duty online configurator available as of this writing.
The five top-level trim levels are still the: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. (Note: Ford discontinued the Limited trim a while ago.) There are still several major optional packages that overlay these trims. They are: XL Off-road (35-inch), STX, Carhartt, Tremor, Black Appearance, Lariat Premium/Ultimate, and Platinum Plus among others.
Here is a table of standard and optional powertrains for XL, XLT, and Lariat trims.

There is an expansion of available off-road packages. The existing XL Off-Road package gets a tire upgrade from 33-inch to 35-inch all-terrains. There is also a way to order this one without any bed decals. The popular Tremor package is now available on every trim level. It is also available on crew cab trucks with an 8-foot bed. That makes it a big and tall off-roader.

Where is that emissions deleted 8.0L Power Stroke V8?
There is no mention of any larger displacement engine in the 2027 Super Duty order guide. There are many rumors about a more powerful new 8-liter turbo-diesel engine, but these are still just rumors.
There are lesser rumors about an upcoming Super Duty Hybrid. Ford has been successfully selling the F-150 twin-turbo V6 Hybrid since the 2021 model year. Why not a Super Duty Hybrid? This could offer better efficiency while driving in the city and up to 7.2 kW of export electric power that you can use for welding, charging, and providing backup power.
There is also the new 2027 Ford F-550 chassis cab Platinum trim.
