What happens when the Predator faces off against the Hellcat? Car versus Truck. Ford versus Ram. The new supercharged 5.2L V8 “Predator” Mustang Shelby GT500 is here to join our ‘Run What You Brung’ drag race video series. In this series, we are trying to see which truck or car will be able to take down the new 2021 Ram TRX in a real-world drag race on a standard road surface of our test track – IMI Motorsports.
The Ford’s supercharged V8 is rated at 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. It’s tuned for sports/muscle car duty. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Ram truck is using its own version of the the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 “Hellcat” engine. This motor is rated at 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This TRX truck with the TR1 package weighs around 6,500 lbs.
The truck has a full-time 4×4/4-auto system. The GT500 is purely a RWD high-performance car. The car weighs about 2,100 lbs less than the truck, but can it put all of that monstrous power down to the track on this cold morning (ambient temperature: 34 F).
This is precisely what we are here to find out in this fun side-by-side acceleration test. We already know that the Ram TRX is capable of a 4.56 second 0-60 MPH at this track (1-mile above sea level). How quick will this Mustang be? Check out the video below for all the great-sounding high-performance fun!
