What’s under the hood of this 2021 Ford F-150 prototype? We get an exclusive look at what may be powering the next F-150, and a peek inside the cab as well.

These images come to us from an anonymous source.

2021 Ford F-150

It’s no secret that Ford is working on a heavily updated new F-150 truck. Most sources expect this truck to be a 2021 model that comes out some time within the next year or so.

What will power the latest Ford F-series half-ton trucks? The prototype you see above has what appears to be an EcoBoost V6 air-intake system. Instead of just one large radiator coolant reservoir, there are two. There is a second smaller fluid reservoir under the hood. It’s not clear what fluid it may be used for. Could it be a secondary coolant system for a hybrid electric system, or something completely different?

There are also what appear to be orange lines on top of the engine that terminate in coils and come from or lead to some sort of a pump or compressor. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Even if we can figure out what all of this means, this F-150 prototype may be testing an experimental powertrain system that may never see production.

Here is a look at interior and the steering wheel of the new F-150 prototype. The image is not very clear, but the shape of the new steering wheel is evident.
