The most badass family hauler you can buy today?
If you’re in search of a large family hauler, you are truly spoiled for choice. No matter which part of your market you shop, nearly ever automaker makes a large family hauler. There’s the new Ford Expedition, the venerated Chevy Suburban, not to mention the waves of three-row crossovers that are hitting the market. But what if you want something that is a bit more old-school? That’s where the 2019 Dodge Durango SRT comes in.
What makes it an awesome American family hauler? Simply, it’s the sheer grunt that goes with the Durango SRT. Sure, you can get a standard Durango with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 in the R/T. But you don’t want that, do you? Instead, this 2019 Dodge Durango SRT has a massive 392 inch, 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood. No supercharging at play here — just 475 naturally-aspirated horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That power routes its way to all four wheels by way of an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s certainly not the most economical, managing 13 City / 19 Highway / 15 Combined mpg.
As far as even modern large SUVs go, that fuel economy number is pretty terrible. Still, though, when you have an engine as charismatic as the Hemi V-8, some can overlook the consumption. What’s more, the SRT Performance Pages allow the driver to dial in exactly what sort of experience they want to have. The 2019 Dodge Durango SRT even has launch control for fast starts, at least by three-row SUV terms.
Speaking of three rows, the 33.5 inches of third row legroom makes the Durango pretty practical for hauling people. So, all that power, practicality, style and performance makes this the most badass American family hauler out there.
