The dust has barely settled on the announcement of the all-new 8.3L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine that GM will use in their new 2027 Chevy Silverado HD and 2027 GMC Sierra HD pickup trucks. We know the numbers, specs, and components. What does an industry expert think about this newest diesel engine? Enter Gale Banks of Banks Power and Banks Engineering.

His company and team make a variety performance upgrades, parts, and data loggers for most new and used vehicles. They also build engines for military JLTV armored trucks. These engines are based on the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 design. They know a lot about this and other diesel engines. Let’s see if Gale Banks approves of the 8.3L Duramax design and changes.

Chevrolet and GMC already published new 2027 HD truck web pages on their sites. The online configurators are not available yet, and we do not yet have official pricing for these 2027 pickup trucks. GM says that these 2027 HD models will go on sale by the end of this year (2026). It means you will be able to start ordering these trucks any day now.
GM is discontinuing the current L5P 6.6L Duramax V8 engine for the 2027 model year. The L6P 8.3L Duramax replaces it. GM also improved the current 6.6L gas V8 engine. This engine now offers more power and torque in this base 6.6L gas V8 engine. Take a look.
