There is a new report related to the Ford and Volkswagen ongoing partnership talks. AutoNews reports that VW is considering to use the latest Ford Ranger chassis/frame for a future next-generation VW Amarok midsize truck. This is reportedly coming from the VW CEO – Herbert Diess.

We reached out to both companies for comment, and the only other official answer we have so far is “an update will be provided soon.”

Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen have been in talks for some time. Here is a previous report from June 2018. Both companies are looking to streamline operations and vehicle development. Vehicle rebadging is not a new practice, but this VW / Ford potential partnership looks to be going much deeper as both companies are looking to develop and sell electrified and autonomous vehicles. Commercial van and truck collaboration may also be on the table.

We do not have many official details about this, so we will have to stay tuned for more news which may come next week at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS).

We take a 2019 Ford Ranger FX4 and a Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road on our Gold Mine Hill off-road trail to see exactly how they compare when the going get tough and icy.
