What If Volkswagen Made a Compact AWD Pickup Truck? This Concept Is Getting Closer to Reality

Sketch/Photo: Volkwagen

This Volkswagen Pickup truck concept may see production in South America soon. Based on the MQB platform which underpins everything from Volkswagen AG from the Audi TT to the Volkswagen Atlas. One ion its most unique features is its folding mid-gate design. Just like the Subaru Baja, Chevrolet Avalanche, Hummer T2 and the Cadillac Escalade EXT, this Volkswagen Pickup Truck Concept will be able to expand when extra bed length is needed.

This is a different (smaller) truck than the Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak concept which you can read about (here).

Slotted beneath the Volkswagen Amarok, this front-wheel drive bias pickup is meant for people who live in urban environments. Volkswagen calls it a “lifestyle vehicle.” While the concept looks like it would fit in well with North American consumers, Volkswagen will only say that the vehicle will be available for other regions.

It looks like it’s quite a bit smaller than the Honda Ridgeline, which (currently) would be its main competitor. It’s a pretty small vehicle and that may be the reason why it skips the United States’ market. Then again, with the small pickup truck market heating up in the USA, Volkswagen may feel obliged to compete.

The Volkswagen Pickup truck concept will debut at the São Paulo Motor Show on November 6th, 2018.
