Ram issued a voluntary safety recall to address a safety concern for rear-seat passengers.
Stellantis published a statement and informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a new, large-scale recall affecting 1,271,294 Ram 1500 trucks between the 2019 and 2026 model years. According to the automaker, the second-row, driver’s side seatbelt buckle anchor may not have been properly secured to the trucks’ body structure at the factory. As a result, the restraint may not perform as it’s supposed to for any passenger in that seat, increasing the risk of injury in an accident.
The company’s internal safety compliance organization began investigating the issue back on February 26, after receiving a report from Transport Canada (the Canadian government’s transportation regulatory agency) of a customer concern that the seatbelt buckle anchor may not have been fastened to the body structure of their 2025 Ram 1500.
On July 15, that internal safety group determined “a build issue existed on certain vehicles related to a condition that can lead to reduced occupant restraint performance of the second-row seatbelt buckle…”. While it is not a part defect, any issue with seatbelts or their anchors puts the vehicles out of compliance with U.S. federal safety standards.
What’s the fix?
Fortunately, there don’t seem to be any reports of injuries from the rear driver’s side seatbelt not performing as expected due to an unattached anchor bolt. The repair is as straightforward as you would expect: Dealers will inspect the second-row driver and center belt buckles and properly attach them to the body structure, if it wasn’t done already. The service will be performed free of charge.
Beyond the nearly 1.3 million subject vehicles for the U.S. recall, Stellantis also notes the problem could affect 156,138 Ram 1500 trucks in Canada and 15,088 units in Mexico.
Owner notifications should go out on August 18 alerting owners to the problem, while the automaker says it will notify its dealers by Thursday, August 6.
