The commercial van market in the United States is growing so fast, that it’s spawning yet another segment. It’s the midsize commercial van segment. This is the space where the Ford Transit Connect is too small and the Ford Transit is too big. What goes in the middle? Well, Mercedes-Benz sees an opportunity as they are just about to introduce the midsize Metris van.
Other manufacturers, such as Ford, have mid-size vans available in other world markets. Could Ford be thinking the same thing as Mercedes? The Ford Transit Custom is being sold in the UK and some other countries. This prototype was caught testing high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It is a high-roof passenger version of the Custom. It has an updated headlight design, but the tail-lights appear unchanged from the current model.
Ford is enjoying great success with the full-size Transit van. The midsize Custom van could be another hit.
Here is another midsize commercial van prototype – the Mercedes-Benz Metris. Stay tuned for much more information about the Metris van in the next several weeks.
