The original Hummer H2 just turned 25 years old, and GMC is marking the occasion with its electric offspring.
For the last quarter-century, you’ve been able to broadly split opinions on the iconic Hummer SUV into either “that’s badass” or “that’s obnoxious”. There wasn’t a whole lot of room for gray area, and to celebrate a huge (if polarizing) vehicle, GMC is releasing an appropriately loud-colored homage to the model that really cemented its brash reputation: the Hummer H2. Meet the 2027 GMC Hummer EV ICON | 25. See, it doesn’t even have a “normal” name, because GM needed to put a vertical line there so you really focus on those component pieces — it’s an icon and it’s 25 years old.
Basically, the 2027 GMC Hummer EV ICON | 25 is a specially styled, limited-run model that offers up a similar yellow hue to the big, boxy SUV that everyone alive at the time remembers when it shock and awed its way onto the scene in 2002. Naturally, the modern iteration is still an EV rather than a 6.0-liter V8-powered beast. That said, you do get up to a wild 1,160 horsepower and — at least using the unconventional method GM uses to express it — 13,000 lb-ft of torque (if you measure directly at the wheels, rather than at the motors like we’re all used to).
The ICON color scheme is more or less the gist of this special edition (as well as some badging), though 2027 GMC Hummer EV buyers do also finally get a standard NACS charging port with the new model year. Vehicle-to-home bidirectional charging is available to provide power to a properly equipped home. You still can get a 24-module battery pack that enables the massive power and 2.8-second 0-60 time…which again, as if I needed to point this out, is utterly ridiculous in a vehicle this gigantic. Air ride suspension, four-wheel steering, CrabWalk, Super Cruise, the roof panels and all your other favorite Hummer goodies are still here.
The 2027 GMC Hummer EV ICON | 25 special edition will be available on either the 2X or 3X versions for the pickup and SUV. GMC didn’t announce pricing as of its Wednesday statement, instead saying we’ll get that figure closer to production later this year. However, the Hummer EV already starts around $99,895 for the dual-motor 2X model. This nod to history will easily bump that over $100K to start, though the number you’re actually looking for if you want to pick one up is the production number. Only 25 will be sold in the U.S. and Canada.
GMC’s public debut for this special Hummer EV will be the 2026 ESPYS awards, taking place in New York City later on tonight, July 15.
