We did not see this coming… GM Defense unveils what appears to be a new Chevy Silverado HD Dually for military use. It’s called the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) concept. The front end looks like a Silverado heavy-duty pickup truck, but that’s where the similarities end. Here’s everything we know so far. Let’s dig in!

GM Defense says the UGV is “built on a rugged Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD dual-rear-wheel skateboard architecture to support silent logistics and casualty evacuation, with functional trials targeted for 2027.“

The most interesting part is that the company calls it a “skateboard architecture“. It makes it sound like it’s an all-electric vehicle. It may have to be in order to operate silently. GM does not currently produce an electrified HD pickup truck. GM Defense is looking to accelerate their vehicle and technology deliveries by utilizing GM’s existing “engineering, supply chain and manufacturing scale“. Perhaps this new dually skateboard chassis is based on the Silverado EV Or a Sierra EV platform? We will have to wait and see.

Here are some more specs.

The Unmanned Ground Vehicle can mean that it drives and navigates by itself, or it can mean that it’s operated remotely. GM Defense showed a different UGV concept vehicle in March of this year. These were based on a variation of the GMC Hummer vehicle. However, these UGV concepts were diesel powered.

GM Defense also showed their latest hybrid power generator they call the “EPIQ Hybrid prototype“. It’s palletized energy storage and generator that has about 100 kWh of energy and a 60 kW power output. It also has a combustion engine to generate electricity.

Speaking of new Chevy Silverado HD pickup trucks. Here’s the new 2027 Silverado HD with an all-new 8.3L Duramax V8 turbo-diesel.
