The chassis cabs do not get the new H.O. Cummins turbo diesel.

The 2025 Ram HD commercial chassis cab trucks get all of the same updates as the consumer HD 2500 & 3500 pickups. The chassis cabs get the updated 6.7L Cummins I6 turbo-diesel engine with the new 8-speed ZF Powerline automatic transmission with left and right PTO (Power Take Off) units. However, the power ratings are not the same. Here are the details. Let’s dig in!

The 6.7L Cummins I6 turbo-diesel has a new air intake system, new engine head design, new injector location, an updated high-pressure fuel pump, and new glow plugs (instead of the grid heater).

The 2025 Ram chassis cab power rating is: 360 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. Why is the power rating so much lower than the consumer H.O. version? It’s because these commercial trucks have different regulations and durability expectations.

The 6.4L HEMI V8 engine is still the base power plant. In the commercial chassis cabs, it’s rated at 375 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

The 2025 HD chassis cab towing and payload ratings are as follows: towing capacity of 34,540 lbs (for Ram HD 5500) and a maximum payload of 11,960 lbs (for Ram HD 5500). These trucks are still the king of payload, if you need to tow more than 34,000 lbs – the Ram HD 3500 consumer truck is rated to tow heavier (at over 36,500 lbs).

Uptime is crucial for this commercial trucks, and Ram lists the following diesel oil change intervals.

  • B20 biodiesel oil change interval – 12,000 miles
  • Regular diesel oil change interval – 15,000 miles

Here are the starting prices for the gasoline V8-powered 2025 trucks.

  • Ram 3500 Chassis Cab – $49,285, including destination
  • Ram 4500 Chassis Cab – $55,660, including destination
  • Ram 5500 Chassis Cab – $56,770, including destination

The 2025 Ram HD online configurator is now live, but the HD 5500 Laramie trim level is not available yet to be configured online. You may have to wait a little longer for this one.
