We have some new information about the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma and some of its automatic 8-speed transmission problems that some owners have been experiencing. According to our friends at Tacoma4G.com forum, Toyota published an official Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to address the issue. This is not a recall, but a published TSB that helps dealerships resolve problems.
The bulletin states the VIN ranges of trucks that may be affected, and it says “The automatic transmission and the torque converter need to be replaced to address this condition. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.” This TSB is focused on the issues with the 8-speed automatic transmission. It does not mention the 6-speed manual transmission.
One of the fault conditions in the TSB lists a “Torque Converter Clutch Actuator Stuck Off“.
Generally speaking, the torque converter is a device that is a fluid coupler between the engine and the transmission. It helps to smooth out some transitions in order to get moving. It has a clutch that locks up in order to remove any fluid coupling and make the torque converter act as a 1-to-1 coupling. This lock up helps the vehicle get better fuel economy. It appears that there is a problem with the actuator and solenoids.
We do not have a more detailed explanation of this problem at this time.
If you are having transmission shifting problems or a vehicle stall with your new 2024 Toyota Tacoma – then you may have this problem. If your vehicle has a VIN that falls into the specified build date range, this TSB will come into the effect and your truck will receive a new transmission and a torque converter. However, we do not know about any vehicle recall that is related to this condition.
Here is a look at some of the most popular new 2024 Toyota Tacoma trim levels. All of them have the 8-speed automatic transmission (hybrid and regular).
