Here is a long-term review of a 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 XtraCab 4×4. It’s a new two-door Tacoma you can still buy, yet many people don’t even know it exists. Our friend, James, tells us what it’s like to live with this Tacoma after two years and nearly 13,000 miles of ownership. Let’s dig in!

It’s a brand-new generation of the Tacoma that came out as a 2024 model. James was one of the first to order this new 2-door XtraCab model. He wanted it to have all of the comfort features and 4×4. He wanted Toyota’s smallest pickup, yet this XtraCab version is just as long and as wide as a Tacoma with a four door cab.

This Tacoma is powered by a 2.4-liter I4 turbocharged engine that is rated at 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It has a 4WD transfer case with a 4LO setting. James says he enjoys the power and torque it offers. It’s great for driving in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. He has had no issues with this powertrain.

This truck’s exterior color is called Supersonic Red. It stands out in a crowd. James went for an OEM+ modification. He added only those parts that are offered on other production Tacoma trucks or their Toyota accessories. This truck’s ride height is all stock. He added TRD Pro wheel and Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT all-terrain tires. These TRD Pro wheels have a different offset. The tires stick out just a little more. This is why James needed to add special wider TRD Pro mud flaps and an aftermarket RCI side step. These combine to protect the body from most stone chips.

This truck had a sticker price of around $44,000 about two years ago. This includes the Cold Weather package. This configuration still stickers for around $44,500 today for a 2026 model.
