Ford introduces a new demo vehicle they call the F-150 Lightning Switchgear. It’s a modified F-150 Lightning with a wider track, widebody Raptor-like body panels, FOX 3.0 dampers with remote reservoirs, and 37-inch all-terrain tires.
This is a fully functioning demonstration vehicle that was built in collaboration between Ford and RTR with Vaughn Gittin Jr. It’s inspired by an RTR F-150 Funhaver truck from several years ago. It uses current Ford F-150 Lightning chassis and powertrain. It’s a dual-motor AWD design with 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. It’s powered by a 131 kWh battery (very similar to the one that is found in a current production Lightning).
The suspension has been changed significantly to allow up to 11 inches of travel in the front and 13 inches of travel in the rear. The body panels allow enough space for the big 37-inch tires to articulate. The truck is called “Switchgear” because it can also be reconfigured with different suspension components and street-performance tires. Ford and RTR say that this truck has a 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution in street configuration or 49/51 distribution in off-road configuration.
