Could this be the refreshed 2025 Nissan Frontier? The midsize pickup truck segment is getting ever more competitive over the next several months and Nissan may be looking to update their popular pickup with the latest technology and style. Let’s take a deeper look.

Big thanks to Edwin Z. for providing this spy image (from Arizona).

Nissan started selling the new generation Frontier pickup truck as a 2022 model. At the time, it made a big leap in design and available technology. However, it stuck with a traditional (although updated) 3.8-liter V6 that is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Most competitors are switching to smaller turbocharged four-cylinder engines that produce more torque and better efficiency under certain conditions.

If this is indeed an upcoming 2025 Frontier refresh – will it be a minor design update or will we see any powertrain options? Could Nissan be working on a gas/electric hybrid powertrain? This lightly camouflaged prototype was spied in Arizona and it was hooked up to a large tandem axle box trailer.

Many pickup truck manufacturers test new prototypes in Arizona because it provides hot temperatures around Phoenix, much colder temperatures near Flagstaff, large elevation changes, and steep highway grades. We will have to wait for some other images of this prototype and some more images.
