Ford, GM, and Toyota Are Up in 2023 U.S. Sales, But There Are Losers…

U.S. consumer choose more premium and more expensive pickup trucks.

Take a look at the Q1 & Q2 2023 full-size pickup truck sales numbers for the United States. Ford F-Series, Chevy, GMC, and Toyota are growing compared to the previous year. However, Ram and Nissan are down. Here are all the details.

Ford’s new 2023 Super Duty is helping increase their F-Series sales in the first half of 2023, according to the company. Near its peak, the Ford F-Series truck total annual sales number was creeping up near the 1 million figure. Will it ever get there again? We will have to wait and see.

Chevrolet Silverado sales show a small improvement. The Silverado 1500 sales were very strong over the last few months, but the Silverado HD sales are down a bit. GMC Sierra has a much stronger sales record. Sierra trucks are up 20.2% over last year. This gain is driven largely by the light-duty Sierra 1500 trucks. It appears that U.S. consumers prefer the more premium GMC pickups, including the more expensive Denali and AT4/AT4X lineups. Toyota Tundra sales continue to gain, and the company is starting to average about 10,000 Tundra sold per month.

Ram is still in a bit of trouble. Ram truck sales dropped by -9% when compared to the first half of 2022. It may just be that the current Ram 1500 and Ram HD lineup is perceived as aging. General Motors, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota have all delivered significantly refreshed or all-new pickup trucks since 2020, while Ram has made measured technology updates. The Ram trucks are still very competitive in my opinion, but it always helps to bring new products to market.

Hummer EV sales are still nowhere near where people expected them. GMC sold 49 Hummer EVs over the last six months.
