What is the best diesel pickup truck year or generation? This question comes to us from Jeff B., but there is a twist. Jeff is asking about the best diesel heavy-duty pickup truck with modern safety equipment.
Jeff writes: “I have owned diesel trucks for many years. I am now in the market for a used diesel truck. I will be using it for daily driving and towing an RV (that weighs 10k) once in a while. Doing some research, the answers I have found are not that consistent. My requirements are diesel, updated safety features (like side curtain airbags), and 4×4. What makes, models and years do y’all recommend?“
Some of the best HD diesel pickup trucks that come to mind are: the 2002-2003 Ford Super Duty with the 7.3L Power Stroke V8; the 2006 Chevy Silverado HD or Sierra HD with the 6.6L Duramax V8 and a 6-speed Alison transmission; or the 2006-2007 Ram HD with the 5.9L Cummins I6 engine.
However, these older turbo-diesels do not offer many of the modern safety features that Jeff is asking about. What do you think? Please let us know in the comments below.
