Video: Surprise – 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV Base Model Gets More Horsepower Than the Raptor! Payload Is Increased As Well

Extended range Lightning power is also higher!

2022 ford f-150 lightning horsepower payload increase

We’re only a few days away from getting behind the wheel of the all-new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Until then, Ford has just announced some very much welcomed improvements for its first-ever all-electric pickup truck.

The new F-150 Lightning, first unveiled last May, will be more powerful than originally estimated for both standard- and extended-range battery packs. The extended-range setup will now produce 580 horsepower instead of 563 hp. Standard-range owners will also see an increase from 426 hp to 452 ponies. Both battery packs produce 775 lb-ft of torque – the highest output to date for any F-150 model.

Payload capacity has also increased from original estimates. When properly equipped, the F-150 Lightning can now haul up to 2,235 pounds, an additional 235 pounds.

As for range, the Blue Oval released the EPA’s estimated driving range in March and those figures were also higher than what we were originally told. Both the F-150 Lightning XLT and Lariat trims with the extended range battery are now rated at 320 miles on a single charge. The fleet-only F-150 Lightning Pro can achieve that same figure but only with the optional more powerful battery.

We were seriously focused on raising the bar on this truck, including after we revealed it, so we can deliver more for our customers,” said Dapo Adewusi, F-150 Lightning vehicle engineering manager. “And our drive for continuous improvement will get a big boost when we start getting feedback and ideas from customers when they receive their Lightnings.”

Expect to see a lot more F-150 Lightning news in the coming days and be sure to tune in for our first official test drive. It’s coming sooner than you think.
