The new 2022 Rivian R1T electric pickup truck and the R1S electric SUV get their official EPA driving range and efficiency estimates. Here are numbers and how they compare against some of the other electric vehicles currently on sale.

The R1T is going on sale this month, so it’s fitting that it get the EPA estimates. The R1T is indeed the first production all-electric pickup truck available for sale in the United States. It beat all others to market. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV truck is supposed to start production later this year. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is slated to come to market in 2022. The Tesla Cybertruck production has again been delayed. Other smaller new manufacturers such as Bollinger have not delivered production trucks either.

There is only one version of the 2022 Rivian R1T truck listed on the EPA website. The maximum driving range is listed at 314 miles. If this is realistic, which we hope to test soon, it is a very respectable driving range number for a fairly large 4WD pickup with four electric motors and over 750 horsepower combined. The R1T is also treated at 70 MPGe combined, which is not great.

So what do you currently compare the R1T and R1S to? One of the largest passenger electric vehicles currently in production is the Tesla Model X. The other high-powered electric vehicle is the new Porsche Taycan. Here is a quick comparison of EPA numbers.

Let us know what you think about these latest numbers. We have reached out to Rivian several times over the years and very recently for a loaner vehicle that we can film several videos with. Rivian has not responded.
