In a few weeks’ time, we’ll get a proper look at the Hummer EV SUV.

Good news if you’ve been waiting for the spiritual successor to the old Hummer SUV to finally make its appearance: The GMC Hummer EV SUV is coming April 3.

The reveal bookends GM’s rollout of an all-electric Hummer under the GMC banner, which it will do during the NCAA Final Four basketball game. Officially, the reveal is happening at 5 PM EDT. GM will also open up reservations at that time, similar to what it did with the GMC Hummer EV pickup.

Apart from the body change, the new GMC Hummer EV SUV will share its underpinnings with the truck. That means we’ll get up to 1,000 horsepower through up to three electric motors. Using the company’s new Ultium battery technology and platform, the GMC Hummer EV SUV should get around 350 miles on a charge, depending on the configuration, and pack an 800-volt electrical architecture. Crab mode should still be a thing here, as well as the Hummer EV’s other off-road features.

2022 GMC Hummer EV
We expect the Hummer EV SUV to sport similar front-end styling to the pickup, but with a two-box design and the spare tire hanging out on the back.

Like the old Hummer H2, the new Hummer SUV will carry its spare tire out back, which is a nice touch. Since we’re seeing the reveal in 2021, GM should actually launch the new Hummer EV SUV sometime later next year, probably as a 2023 model.

Stay tuned to see more coming in the next few weeks, says GMC:
