Rivian publishes an official video demonstration of the R1T electric truck doing muddy tank turns. This is something that no other production intent consumer vehicle can do.
Rivian R1T Pickup Truck
The upcoming Rivian R1T and R1S are equipped with four inboard-mounted electric motors. There are two motors in the rear, and two motors in the front. Each motor is driving each wheel. Rivian says this makes for a very precise all-wheel-drive system control for sporty on-road driving and capable off-roading.
Another benefit of the quad-motor system is the ability to make perfect in-place 360-degree tank turns. The motors on one side of the truck are driven forward, while the other side is driven backward. The result is a perfect tank turn.
This is a cool feature is not just for bragging to your friends about. It is very fun, but it can also be very useful when driving off-road in tough terrain between tight obstacles or parking in a very small space.
Rivian says that the “tank turn” feature will be available on both the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV.
