2021 Chevy Tahoe Independent Rear Suspension Was Not an Easy Decision – It Could Be Durable Enough for the Silverado (Report)

It also may be the end of the Blackwing twin-turbo V8.

2021 Chevy Tahoe RST:

The all-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban SUVs are officially here and are preparing to go on sale in mid-2020. One of the most significant design changes for the new SUVs is the independent rear suspension.

A recent report by Road Show states that GM has done very extensive durability testing on the new rear suspension several million of real-world test miles. Chevy Tahoe/Suburban chief engineer, Tim Asoklis, told Road Show that the independent rear suspension is robust enough to be used in a Chevy Silverado 1500 or GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. This is not an official statement that GM’s half-ton truck will switch over to the IRS setup. Although, it’s interesting to note that this suspension could be adopted by the pickup trucks.

Also, the IRS suspension may have also been the end of the Blackwing twin-turbo gas V8. This new engine would have been so good in the next generation Cadillac Escalade and/or GMC Yukon Denali. However, reports by Autoblog and others state that the overall 2021 SUV design changes and Arlington factory upgrades did not leave much room to also accommodate the Blackwing V8 in the big SUVs.
