2020 Nissan Titan XD

Nissan unveiled the updated 2020 Titan just about a month ago at the State Fair of Texas. Now, we get all of the details on the update Titan XD. The XD remains a bigger brother in the truck lineup, and Nissan is positioning it more as “towing package” for an already capable pickup truck. Naturally, the XD is a physically bigger truck, so it’s more than a traditional “towing package”.

The Titan XD is about three inches taller than a standard Titan due to a much larger and taller fully-boxed frame. The truck only comes in a crew cab configuration 4×4 with 6.5-foot bed. This also means that its wheelbase is 11.8 inches longer than on a standard Titan. Overall, it’s meant to be a heavier and more stable towing platform.

The only engine option is the updated 5.6-liter gas V8 that is now rated at 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel or 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque on regular unleaded.

The more significant change is the new 9-speed automatic transmission. Nissan is producing this transmission, and it is physically larger than the 7-speed automatic it replaces. Nissan had to modify the frame cross-members and mounting locations in order to accommodate the new 9-speed.

Capability

Nissan says that the 2020 Titan XD will be best the standard Titan capability by approximately 900 lbs of extra payload, and 1,700 lbs of maximum towing capability. Titan SV trim level and above will include a gooseneck hitch as standard.

Nissan has not yet published GVWR, GCWR, towing, or payload ratings. It’s not yet clear whether all 2020 Titan XD trucks will be under the 8,500 lbs GVWR limit – making it a true half-ton class truck. Currently, the Titan XD truck is classified as a “3/4-ton” truck anD thus is not required to publish EPA fuel economy ratings.

We do not have any fuel economy estimates for the 2020 Titan or the Titan XD (if required).

Interior & Technology

On the inside, the 2020 Titan XD comes with either an 8-inch center infotainment screen or an optional 9-inch screen you see above. The screen offers high resolution graphics, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration. There is also a new 7-inch digital display in the center gauge cluster for additional driver information.

All 2020 Titan trucks comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360 driver assistance technology suite. It includes: automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert when backing up, lane departure warning, high beam headlight assist, and class-exclusive rear auto braking assist.

Safety is further improved with eight available airbags, instead of six in the 2019 model year. The four outer seat belts now have have pretensioners.

The 2020 Titan XD comes in five trim levels: S, SV, PRO-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve. Nissan will maintain the 5-year / 100,000 mile warranty on 2020 Titan trucks.

Pricing for the 2020 Titan XD and Titan truck is not yet available. The truck will go on sale in early 2020. You can be sure that TFLtruck will be one the first to drive these new trucks and test them in Colorado on the Ike Gauntlet™.
