This Is the Official Teaser of the New Nissan Xterra 4×4! Is the Titan Truck Coming Back?

2028 nissan Xterra 4x4 SUV teaser

Here is our first official look at the upcoming Nissan Xterra 4×4. This is the only revealing image that Nissan showed so far. Here is everything we know. Let’s dig in!

Nissan says the new “rugged SUV” will be a body on frame off-roader that will be built in the United States.

Here is the statement from Nissan. “Nissan is exploring a family of five U.S.-built models on a new body-on-frame platform including the all-new Xterra, with potential expansion to pickups and multi-row SUVs across Nissan and INFINITI brands.

Wait, what!? Up to five new pickups and SUVs? Does this mean that the full-size Nissan Titan is coming back to the U.S.? We think the return of the Titan is highly unlikely, but we welcome the rugged off-road SUVs and trucks from the Nissan and INFINITI brands.

It sounds like Nissan is taking a page out of the Toyota/Lexus playbook. This new Nissan Xterra would compete against the current Toyota 4Runner. INFINITI may get a new Lexus GX competitor. There may be a three-row Land Cruiser 250 competitor from Nissan, and this can result in next-gen Nissan Frontier as well.

This is what the new Xterra may look like. We created these renderings based on the teaser image Nissan released.

Nissan says: “Giving customers more capability, versatility and choice across key segments, this body-on-frame model family will also feature V6 or new V6 Hybrid powertrains.

Nissan says that the next-gen Xterra is coming in “late 2028”, so it could be a 2029 model.

There is another rugged off-road body-on-frame SUV coming to the U.S. market before 2030. It’s the all-new Hyundai body-on-frame midsize pickup truck and a potential family of 4×4 vehicles. Hyundai previews this new rugged lineup with the Boulder concept SUV at the New York Auto Show.

There is also a credible rumor of a GMC Jimmy body-on-frame rugged off-road SUV coming back to the U.S. The midsize pickup truck and truck-based SUV segments are entering a new renaissance.

We will let you know as soon as we know more.
