Take a look at these latest images of what appears to be a 2021 GMC Yukon XL (Chevy Suburban) prototype spied towing a large trailer. This is a long wheelbase SUV with large wheels that suggests it could be a top of the line Denali model.

2021 GMC Yukon XL / Chevy Suburban
The all-new generation of GM’s largest SUVs continue their testing. This prototype is sporting quad exhaust outlets in the rear. This may mean that there is a big V8 engine under the hood. While no official specifications or debut schedule are yet known, we anticipate the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade to offer the 6.2L V8 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission in one trim or another. The base output will likely remain at 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. However, a higher performance variant with a free breathing air intake and exhaust system is also possible.
The big news that we have learned from looking at several of these prototypes is that the solid rear axle has been . replaced by an independent rear suspension setup. This should improve the ride quality, but will it hurt the towing performance and maximum ratings? We will have to wait and see, but it’s great to see that GM continues to test these vehicles with trailers.
