This Is The ‘Truckla’: A Tesla Model 3-Based Pickup You Can Have Never

It looks pretty awesome, doesn't it?

When you’re sick of waiting for the Tesla pickup…

Sometimes, if you want something done, you just have to do it yourself. At least that’s the case with this YouTube video that cropped up today, showing off a converted Tesla pickup using a Model 3 as a base. Its name? The Truckla. It’s obvious, really. While Tesla itself has yet to bring its own pickup to market (so far), YouTuber Simone Giertz takes matters into her own hands.

Yes, it may “technically” be more of a ute since it’s based on a car. Even still, we know what it’s supposed to represent.

“I don’t know if this is gonna be the smartest or stupidest thing I’m ever gonna do,” she starts out. “I need to haul lumber and dead bodies right now!” That’s as sound of reasons as any to build your own electric pickup, in my book.

She decided to go with a Tesla Model 3 because it has a steel chassis that’s easier to fabricate for. Tesla’s more expensive Model S, on the other hand, use aluminum instead. For her Truckla project, Giertz gets a new Standard Range Model 3, since a used Long Range is actually more expensive.

After they gut the interior and remove the rear windows, they take out the rear part of the roof and fabricate a truck bed. And for those who think this is still too much Tesla, not enough truck, the bed comes from a broken down Ford F-150.

The end result looks pretty awesome, if not entirely perfect. Even so, it’s also a gauntlet thrown to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has been dangling the pickup carrot in front of us for a long time now. It may still be years before we actually get a Tesla Pickup that we can all buy.

What’s more, Giertz features in a well-produced parody ad for the Truckla. Check it out below:
