The F-150 Could Get the New 7.3L V8 Out of the Super Duty

All-new Ford-designed and Ford-built 7.3-liter V8.

The all-new big block 7.3-liter V8 found in the 2020 Ford Super Duty might not only be for heavy duty trucks after all.

Speaking at the Chicago Auto Show, Ford spokesperson Mike Levine told Motor Authority that the new 7.3-liter will fit in the engine bay of the F-150, though he didn’t go so far as to confirm anything.

Ford also hasn’t confirmed power numbers yet on the big 7.3-liter, only saying it will make more than the outgoing 6.2-liter V8, which means we can expect more than 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.

The fact the the EcoBoost-powered Raptor has caught so much flack for ditching its naturally aspirated V8 could make it a great candidate for this massive engine, especially if the gas V8 can make at least 450 horsepower like the current 3.5-liter EcoBoost does in the Raptor.

The engine will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission in the Super Duty, which is what the F-150 already uses as well, though technically they will be different transmissions.

We’ll have to wait and see if Ford ever makes this move, but we would definitely love to see the Raptor go back to its naturally aspirated roots. What do you think? Does an F-150 with a 7.3-liter engine excite you? Let us know in the comments below.
