Unlike the Toyota Land Cruiser, you do get a few choices with the Lexus LX 570. For a start, you can actually choose whether you want two or three-row seating. If you elect for the two-row LX 570, the price starts at $85,380 plus a $1,195 destination fee, for a total of $86,575. In other words, nearly identical to the Land Cruiser.

However, if you want three rows, like the standard Land Cruiser, you’ll have to spend $91,575 – roughly $6,000 more than the equivalent Land Cruiser. So what do you get for that extra money?

Exterior features

Externally, despite the different design, you don’t get anything drastically different from the Land Cruiser. However, the triple-beam headlights are a nice touch, and the LX 570 comes with 20-inch wheels as standard. The Lexus is available in six colors to the Land Crusier’s five: Eminent White Pearl, Atomic Silver, Nebula Gray Pearl, Black Onyx, Nightfall Mica (blue) and a sort of beige Satin Cashmere Metallic. All are no-cost colors, however to get Satin Cashmere you have to pick the parchment leather with Linear Dark Mocha wood trim.

As with the Land Cruiser, you get roof racks, a power tilt/slide moonroof, power mirrors, aluminum running boards and LED lights all around. You also get rain-sensing wipers, mud guards and skid plates. 21-inch wheels are a $745 option. You can also spec a “Glass Breakage Sensor” for $329. Unlike the Land Cruiser, remote start is standard on the LX through the Lexus Enform Remote app.

Interior features

The Lexus LX 570 comes with a 12.1-inch infotainment display, to the Toyota Land Cruiser’s 9.0-inch unit. While the Land Cruiser comes with a 14-speaker audio system standard, you can spec a 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system in the LX for $2,350. The heated steering wheel – also standard in the Land Cruiser – is a $150 option here, and you have to spec the “Luxury Package” to get it.

The $1,190 Luxury Package adds semi-aniline leather (as opposed to natural leather), heated and ventilated first and second-row seats, and a four-zone climate monitoring system which Lexus calls a “concierge”. While the cooled center console box is standard in the Land Cruiser, its a $170 option in the LX 570. Furthermore, you have to get the $2,005 rear-seat entertainment system to have the cool box at all.

Standalone options include the $900 color heads-up display and a Qi wireless charger for $75 (standard on the Land Cruiser). The Lexus LX 570 also includes AM/FM/SiriusXM/CD and Bluetooth compatibility. Once again, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is not supported.

The heads-up display is a nifty feature, and $900 may not feel like a huge upcharge, since this car already costs over $90,000 with three-row seating. The Qi wireless charger and cool box are low-cost options, but they’re both tied to more expensive packages. You may want to pass on the rear-seat entertainment system in lieu of using tablets, unless you’ll make heavy use of the system with the kids.

Safety

The 2018 Lexus LX 570 comes with Lexus Safety System+, which includes forward collision braking, Lane Departure Warning, automatic high beams and Radar Cruise Control. As with the Toyota Land Cruiser, the LX 570 also has 10 airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill-start assist, stability control, ABS and Electronic Brake Force Distribution.
