The 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck lineup is getting a refresh across the board. The 2016 models will start arriving at dealership at the end of October or beginning of November (according to GMC). What are you getting? There is a new front-end styling with a bigger grille, new front bumper fascia, and LED fog lights. There are distinct grille designs for each trim level as before. There are updates on the interior that feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

The 8-speed automatic will now be available with the 5.3L V8 on certain higher-end models. This is a welcome addition as it provides a little quicker off-the-line acceleration and better efficiency at highway speeds. GMC has not released the MPG ratings for each configuration yet.

The other interesting feature is the retractable running running board that swings back by hitting a button with your foot. We are yet to test it fully, but it is handy for getting back into the bed. There is a warning sound inside the cab in the case you forget that the side step is left in extended position. If it is in the rear position, it will not retract automatically when you close the door. You need to hit the button on the step to bring it forward.

Watch the video below to see the retractable running boards that can also swing back to allow for easier access to the front of the bed.
