It must do EVERYTHING very well!

I want to show you my dream new heavy-duty pickup truck. This truck must do it all and do it very well. It’s a brand-new 2024 Ford F-350 King Ranch Tremor crew cab 4×4. This truck is equipped with a 6.7L Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8. Here is why it’s my favorite truck in the heavy-duty segment. Let’s dig in!

Configuration

This is a crew cab truck with a 6.75-foot bed. It has more than plenty of space for five people in the cab, and the bed is long enough to carry everything I want or tow a large gooseneck or 5th-wheel camping trailer. It is a one-ton F-350 truck with a single rear wheel. Let’s discuss the ride comfort a little later. This is an ideal configuration for what I need. I would not buy a heavy-duty pickup with a long 8-foot bed or dually rear wheels. I do not need a truck that big, and I do not want to tow a trailer that is large enough to require a dually.

Power

This is the most powerful pickup truck from the factory at this time. The high-output diesel engine in this truck is rated at 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Is this power really meaningful in the real world? Yes! We have drag raced several Super Duty trucks with this engine against GM and Ram heavy duties. This diesel wins the 1/4-mile test.

Drag racing is just for fun, but we also put this engine on the Ike GauntletTM – the world’s toughest towing test against a new Chevy Silverado 3500 Duramax V8. We pulled a 27,000 lbs gooseneck trailer during our last test. The H.O. Power Stroke helped a F-350 dually keep its title of the heavy-weight towing champion.

Capability

This F-350 crew cab King Ranch 4×4 Tremor truck has a maximum payload rating of just over 3,700 lbs and a maximum towing rating of 23,000 lbs.

While GM and Ram offer special off-road trims of their heavy-duty pickup trucks, they are offered only in their 2500 series trucks. I am referring to the Silverado HD 2500 ZR2, GMC Sierra HD 2500 AT4X, the Ram HD 2500 Rebel, and the Ram 2500 Power Wagon. Ford offers the Tremor as an additional package on several trim levels of the F-250 and F-350 trucks.

Off-Road Capability

This is an F-350 4×4 truck with the Tremor off-road package. Naturally, a heavy-duty pickup truck that weighs over 8,200 lbs just by itself is not an ideal choice for a weekend off-roader. However, my dream truck needs to do everything well. Going on an occasional off-road excursion is something I love doing.

The Tremor package offers a slightly higher ride height than a standard 4×4, 35-inch Goodyear Duratrac tires, rear locking differential, skid plates, unique suspension tuning, trail turn assist, and rock crawl mode. This particular truck also has an optional winch integrated into the front bumper. This winch is an expensive option, but it’s certified by Ford Performance. It passes crash and safety certification as well. It’s a dealer-installed option.

In the end, a Super Duty Tremor can tackle some difficult terrain, if the trail is not too narrow.

Comfort & Technology

This is a luxury truck with a Western design theme. It has maximum recline seat with heat, cooling, and massage. It has an adaptive cruise system with lane keep (but Super Duty trucks do not offer Blue Cruise hands-free driving, at least yet). It has on-board scales that let you know how much weight is in the truck, and it will help you back up a big trailer (if you need it to).

In the end, this truck offers everything I am looking for in a great HD pickup. However, it comes at a price. The truck you see here has a listed MSRP of $105,210.
