It’s time for the next heavyweight Ike GauntletTM championship! We compared all of the heavy-duty pickup trucks just over three years ago. Now, they have updated technology, additional features, and ever more powerful turbo-diesel engines. Who is the next heavyweight champion? Let’s tackle the mountain!

Ike GauntletTM

This is the steepest allowable interstate in the country. This is the 8-mile stretch of I-70 in the Rocky Mountains. It’s a 7% grade with a top elevation of 11,158 feet above sea level. In just two weeks from now, we will celebrate 10 years of the Ike Gauntlet!TM Yeee-haw!

We invited all three HD pickup truck manufacturers: Chevrolet/GMC, Ford, and Ram. Ram was not able to participate this time because the needed Ram 3500HD dually was double-booked. So, it’s Ford versus Chevy for now.

2023 Ford Super Duty

We just learned everything about the updated new Super Duty truck lineup. The truck we have here is a crew cab 4×4 Limited model with a high-output 6.7L Power Stroke V8. It’s rated at 500 hp @ 2,600 rpm and 1,200 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600 rpm. The engine is mated to a heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission. This dually is equipped with a 3.55 rear axle ratio.

This top-of-the-line Limited 4×4 dually has an approximate payload rating of 5,150 lbs and a tow rating of 31,800 lbs.

2024 Chevy Silverado HD

The Chevrolet Silverado has many updates. The main one we are interested in is the second version of the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8. It’s rated at 470 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 975 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600 rpm. The latest L5P engine is mated to a heavy-duty Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission and a 3.42 rear axle ratio.

This Silverado 3500HD LTZ model has an approximate payload rating of 5,250 lbs and a tow rating of 31,000 lbs for this crew cab 4×4 configuration. We do not know what this exact LTZ heavy-duty truck is rated at.

Here is a look at what happened last time with the 2020 Ford F-350 and the 2020 GMC Sierra 3500HD.
