You know how it goes — nothing’s more American than baseball and apple pie, and driving a truck. This year, Ram’s taking the patriotism to the next level with five “Built to Serve” models, one for each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy). Members of each branch who are currently serving or have served will get two limited edition colors for their Ram 1500 to set them apart.
Coinciding with Veteran’s Day, Ram will launch the Built to Serve Edition on November 6. The first two trucks will debut as part of the “Stars and Strings” concert celebrating American soldiers at Fox Theater in Detroit. From then on, two more trucks will launch every three months for each of the Armed Forces in the following colors:
Branch | 1st color | 2nd color |
Army | Gator | Diamond Black |
Navy | Ceramic Gray | Patriot Blue |
Air Force | Anvil | Billet Silver |
Marines | Tank | Flame Red |
Coast Guard | Spitfire | Bright White |
Limited run colors
Ram will offer 1,000 of each color except Spitfire and Bright White, of which there will only be 500 each. In total, there will be about 9,000 special edition trucks. The Built to Serve Package is a $2,795 premium over the standard Ram 1500, but it’s available with all body styles and powertrains.
Apart from the colors, the Ram Built to Serve Edition offers a few more bespoke touches. There are American flag decals on the bed, and Ready to Serve badges on the interior as well as color stitching corresponding to their branch of service. 20-inch aluminum wheels with a Technical Gray finish are also part of the package, as are body-color wheel flares. An all-black grille and surround, as well as black bumpers, side steps and exhaust tips round out the exterior.
Inside, the Built to Serve Edition gets Velcro panels on each front seat. More panels are also on the shoulder panels to display the owner’s patches. Cloth and vinyl sport seats, lockable console storage and a Black Onyx Chrome trim finish off the interior touches.
Under the skin, the Ram 1500 Built to Serve Edition adds the 4×4 Off-Road Group. That includes all-terrain tires, an electronic locking rear differential, hill descent control, a host of skid plates, and off-road calibrated front and rear shocks.
