What is it like to take the new 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro on an overland off-the-grid trip across two states? This is exactly what we did.
TFL boss-man, Roman Mica, had an opportunity to test out the new batch of Toyota TRD vehicles, this included the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Roman tested the 2019 TRD Pro lineup over several days, overlanding over 150 miles from Utah to Colorado. This part of the adventure took three days.
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will be offered in white, black, and Voodoo blue – as will the Tundra and 4Runner TRD Pros.

While some updates are subtle, the available TRD Desert Air Intake (read: “snorkel”) is pretty big news. Toyota will not call it a snorkel, as it does not offer any additional water fording depth to the truck. They say it helps the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro get the cleaner air circulating above the truck when dust, dirt and debris show up. The cleaner air has a direct path to the intake; thus keeping the air filter cleaner. Or, if you read between the lines, Toyota doesn’t want to give the green-light to 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro owners who opt to submerge their trucks.
Toyota also retains the Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires with Kevlar. While these are great all-around tires, we found them to be lacking when matched against other, more dedicated off-road tires. There is no front locker either, which is a shame.
