Ford says that its Super Duty, F-150, midsize pickup, and a new electric UEV midsize pickup truck will come to production in the United States before 2029. Whoa! Ford is putting together a plan that will renew and revamp up to 80% of its pickup truck lineup by volume. This is a very ambitious statement. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in!

This week Ford announces a new plan and team called “Product Creation & Industrialization”.

Here is a quote from the Ford statement,

Massive Portfolio Renewal: By 2029, Ford will refresh 80% of its North American portfolio by volume and 70% of its global portfolio by volume. This includes the first vehicle on the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, a mid-sized pickup, and the next-generation F-150 and F-Series Super Duty.

This team was initially put in place by the Ford leadership team that includes CEO, Jim Farley, and industry innovator, Doug Field, among many others. Doug Field has been at Ford for five year, and is now departing Ford in May 2026. Doug was part of innovation teams at Apple, Tesla, and Ford over the better part of the last two decades.

Alan Clarke is being promoted to vice president of Advanced Development Projects. Alan Clarke came to Ford several years ago from Tesla. Doug, Alan, and others reportedly elevated the Ford culture to embrace first principles thinking as it applies to vehicle and connected services development.

This is a lot of fancy speak, but the result of all this work is the first Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) midsize pickup truck that Ford says is coming “in the middle of 2027”. We hope to see a pre-production model some time this year, and the production of this midsize pickup will begin in Kentucky in 2027.

This Ford statement also mentions the Ford F-150, the Ford Super Duty, and a Ford midsize pickup truck. Hmm… We expect the next generation of the Ford F-150 to arrive as a 2028 model. We don’t have any statement from Ford about this, but this is our educated guess. GM will soon introduce the new generation of the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. Ford cannot be too far behind this.

The next generation of the Ford Super Duty will likely come a year after the new F-150. We expect this to be a 2029 model. Ford also mentions the “midsize pickup truck”. We think they mean the Ford Ranger.

Ford also says that the company will use some sort of electrification in up to 90% of their vehicles by 2030. This likely means that the new F-150 Hybrid and a new Ford Ranger Hybrid are coming. We think a Ford Super Duty Hybrid is also part of this plan.
