Ram truck unveils the 2027 Ram HD pursuit capable emergency response truck. It’s been tested by the Michigan State Police (MSP). Ram says it’s the first and only 3/4-ton heavy duty pickup truck to complete this verification. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in!
Specific tests performed at the MSP trials included:
- 0-60 mph acceleration, 0-80 mph acceleration, and 0-100 mph acceleration
- Distance covered to reach top speed
- Average deceleration rate while performing 20 full anti-lock brake stops from 60-0 mph
- Successful completion of all 32 laps of the Grattan Raceway dynamics testing without major component failure
This law enforcement truck is based on a 2027 Ram HD 2500 Tradesman crew cab 4×4. It’s equipped with a 6.4L HEMI V8 that is rated at 405 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. While standard Ram HD trucks like this are equipped with a 3.73-to-1 rear axle ratio, this version gets a 4.10-to-1 axle that is also used in the HEMI-powered Power Wagon. Ram says it provides better acceleration for this package.
In the 0–100 mph acceleration testing, the Ram recorded times within two seconds of several lighter and smaller ½‑ton trucks and SUV competitors, posting an 8.41 second 0-60 mph sprint, a 13.22 seconds 0-80 mph sprint, and a 20.5 seconds to 0-100 mph acceleration. The Ram reached a tire-limited speed of 103 mph in a scant 0.45 miles, staying on-pace with competitors.
