Ram Trucks announces updates and changes for the upcoming 2027 Ram HD pickup truck lineup. There is a lot of good news here. Let’s dig in.
Extra Payload!
The most useful news is that 2027 Ram HD 2500 trucks with the gas 6.4L HEMI V8 get an option to increase their payload rating by 1,040 lbs. The maximum payload rating number goes up to a best-in-class 4,580 lbs. This is accomplished by offering a heavier 3500-series frame and leaf springs for these 2500-series trucks.

This extra Ram 2500 payload package costs $835. If your job depends on carrying cargo and equipment, this is a small price to pay to get this level of capability. The Ram 3500 4×4 single-rear-wheel regular cab with a 8-foot bed and crew cab with a 6’4” bed get 400 lbs more payload with an increased GVWR of 11,440 lbs.
More Choices
Ram is expanding their HD Sport Appearance and Night Edition package availability. These are now available with Level 1 and Level 2 equipment groups that offer lower starting prices.
Ram is offering a WARN electric winch as a stand-alone option on HD Rebel and Power Wagon models without requiring a Level 1 equipment group. This expands the winch availability to the HD Rebel trucks, and it should make the HD Tradesman Power Wagon a little more affordable.
The anti-spin rear differential is also a stand-alone option for on 2027 Ram HD Tradesman models. Get a basic work truck with a lockable rear differential and nothing else. This can also improve affordability.
A littler later in the 2027 model year, Ram will also offer the Serrano Green Metallic and Tank Clear-Coat exterior colors. These colors have been popular within the 2026 Ram 1500 lineup.
Same Engines and Same Power
The 6.4L HEMI V8 is rated at 405 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque for the 2027 model year. This is the same as it was since the 2025 model year.
The 6.7L Cummins high-output turbo-diesel is still listed at 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque – just as before.

The 2027 Ram 2500 HD HEMI V8 has up to 17,740 lbs of max towing & 4,580 lbs of max payload.
The 2027 Ram 2500 HD Cummins diesel has up to 20,000 lbs of maximum towing & 3,990 lbs of max payload.
The 2027 Ram 3500 HEMI V8 has up to 18,140 lbs of max towing & 7,580 lbs of payload with the dually setup.
The 2027 Ram 3500 Cummins diesel has up to 37,020 lbs of max towing and 6,460 lbs of max payload.
Naturally, if you get a bigger cab, a longer bed, a more luxurious trim level, then these towing and payload ratings will be lower based on the curb weight of a specific truck and its powertrain/drivetrain equipment.
