Would you buy a luxurious Lexus GX 550 Overtrail pickup truck? Think of it as a new Toyota Tacoma 4×4 with a powerful twin-turbo V6 and Lexus interior. This is one of the topics that Kase and I discussed in a recent TFL Talkin’ Trucks podcast. Let’s dig in.

The world of luxurious pickup trucks seems to know no limits. Yet, luxury brands such as Lexus or Mercedes do not offer a pickup truck. Several newcomer manufacturers aim to take over this space. Take a look at the existing Rivian R1T, the INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster, and the upcoming Scout Terra Harvester.

Toyota has an advantage with its new TNGA-F platform that underpins vehicles such as the Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner, Land Cruiser 250, Lexus GX, and the Lexus LX just to name a few. This is a body-on-frame 4WD platform that is tough and offers several powertrain options. Why not use it to create a luxurious pickup truck?

The must be a business case for vehicle such as this. Let’s take a look at existing prices. The 2026 Rivian R1T gen2 new prices reange between $73,000 and $116,000. The 2026 INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster starts at around $84,000. The current 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro can approach $70,000 with options. The 2026 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition goes to about $72,000 with options.

The market would accept a well executed Lexus GX pickup truck with a price range between $70,000 – $90,000+. Why a GX-based pickup truck and not an LX. The new GX 550 is very popular vehicle within the overland/travel community. A pickup truck version would give it more versatility and ability to carry more equipment or a small camper.

The current 2026 GX 550 SUV has a starting price of aroud $67,000. The GX 550 Overtrail off-road version starts at around $75,000. What do you think? Would a GX 550 Overtrail pickup be a popular new truck? Please let me know in the comments below.
