How is my 2019 Toyota Tundra V8 truck doing as it approaches 90,000 miles? Here is my long-term update. I purchased this truck from Dallas, TX about eight months ago. This is the first Toyota pickup truck that I have personally owned. As part of my job, I have driven, tested, and reviewed every new pickup truck over the last 12 years. Here is how this Tundra stacks up, and here are some of the changes I made to it.
I love the looks of this truck. It still looks brand new after all this time and mileage. I did not remove the awkward snorkel / raised air intake. If you see my snorkel while driving around – give me a wave.
I did get the new all-terrain tires put on the truck. I went for a larger size (295/70R18) to improve the looks and capability of this truck. The fresh new BFG KO3 tires transformed the ride of this truck. It’s stable and comfy. I have not taken it off-road the the new tires yet.
I am not in love with the older V8 & 6-speed driving experience. The transmission tends to downshift a lot (even the torque converter unlocking is noticeable at speed). However, this engine and the TRD PRO exhaust system produce glorious sounds that I will not grow tired of. Also, I have confidence that this engine and transmission will last a very long time with regular maintenance.
When I put this truck on the lift – I found a problem that I have been suspecting for a while. One of the FOX shocks is leaking fluid. The shocks just do not seem to control the body motion very well after 80,000+ miles. These need to be rebuilt or replaced.
