The world of large full-size three-row SUVs is getting back on track with General Motors gaining back lost ground. GM has been going through a complete model lineup refresh over the last several months. Now, the updated 2025 models are at dealerships and they are moving quickly. The same cannot be said for Ford, Jeep, and Toyota. There has been a lot of leaderboard position shuffling in Q1. Let’s dig in!

The big SUV segment is doing very well at the start of the year. Here is a closer look at each manufacturer separately. Let’s rank them!

General Motors #1

GM is still controlling the segment in the United States, with over 67% of total market share. Every new GM three-tow SUV improved sales significantly in Q1 2025, and the manufacturer grew sales by 35.3% over Q1 of last year.

Ford / Lincoln #2

Here is a closer look at the Ford and Lincoln SUVs. They hold a firm second place behind GM, but Ford is selling less than one quarter of what General Motors is selling over the same time period. This may be in large part due to the 2025 Expedition and Navigator refresh. The updated SUVs are not quiet at dealerships yet. They are built in Kentucky, and the updated 2025 Navigator SUVs should be arriving at dealers first.

Nissan / Infiniti #3

Things are looking up for the Nissan and Infiniti SUVs in 2025. The all-new 2025 Infiniti QX80 is able to pickup momentum and actually outsell the less expensive new Armada in Q1. As the Armada production ramps up, and if it’s not affected by new tariffs (it’s assembled in Japan) – we should see the Armada sales improve significantly next quarter.

Jeep #4

The big Jeep SUVs sales are down in a big way. It’s difficult to account for all of the factors, but GM may be picking up many customers and gaining share. This includes fleet sales as well. Many of these big and luxurious SUVs are used as limousines around the country and the world.

Toyota / Lexus #5

Toyota and Lexus truck-based SUVs drop to the number 5 spot behind Jeep and Nissan. The Sequoia that was all-new two years ago is now one of the older models in the segment. It also does not offer a lot of 3rd-row space or legroom. These may be some of the factors why its sales are going down in Q1.
